Observation Point
Looking north one sees a mixture of deciduous broadleaf trees, evergreen conifers, flowering trees, shrubs, grasses, perennials, and wildflowers. On the left beside the walkway, the plant species originated in Europe and Asia. On the lawn and to the right, most of the plants are native to North America with several occurring Mannahatta. Birds like Cardinals and Robins may be seen here all year round and migrating birds such as Hermit Thrushes, various Warblers, and several species of Sparrow pass through in spring and fall. Insects and spiders can sometimes be found on the shrubs to the left. Wildflowers (aka weeds) may appear anywhere at any time. In damp weather mushrooms of different kinds may spring up for brief periods beneath the trees and shrubs.
