HUDSON RIVER OBSERVATION POINT #1
Pier 42 Pile Field
Morton Street North
Looking north one sees a mixture of deciduous broadleaf trees, evergreen conifers, flowering trees, shrubs, grasses, perennials, and wildflowers. On the left beside the walkway, most of the plant species originated in Asia. On the lawn and to the right, the plants are native to North America, with some exceptions. Birds like Cardinals and Robins may be seen here all year round and migrating birds such as Hermit Thrushes, various Warblers, and several species of Sparrow pass through in spring and fall. Insects and spiders can sometimes be found on the shrubs to the left. In damp weather mushrooms of different kinds may appear for brief periods beneath the trees and shrubs.
